TY - THES T1 - A Methods engineering study on Company X A1 - Alcantara, Raymund A2 - Oliva, Ma. Katrina LA - English PP - Diliman, Quezon City PB - College of Engineering YR - 2003 UL - https://ds.mainlib.upd.edu.ph/Record/UP-99796217610074037 AB - In totality, the main foci of the study are the repacking and production units. With its aim, to improve the system of Company X in relation to its goals as a manufacturing company, solutions were given to prominent problems using basic methods engineering techniques and concepts. The main problems singled out are Poor Plant Layout (in the case of the Production Unit) and Lack of Standard Operating Time and Procedures (as of the Repacking Unit); while a minor but integral concern is Redundancy of Transactions Documentation (in the case of the purchasing, sales and accounting departments). An efficient layout was developed to address problems concerning the Production unit, within this a cost-benefit analysis was performed to ensure practicality of proposed method. Meanwhile, a time study was conducted to set-up Standard Operating Times for activities within the repacking unit in order to establish the amount of time required to perform the repacking processes, while taking into consideration the necessary allowances and performance rating of the operators. A proposed Standard Operating Procedure was established as well, with the goal of reducing the delays incurred at the repacking unit. Briefly, alternative tools for the current basic tools used by the Company were proposed to minimize time expended by the workers and increase productivity rate. All in all, the problems encountered were given solution with a conscious effort to combine the elements of practicality; concern for the goals of the company and the overall welfare of the workers as well.
