Specifically, it aimed to determine the topics and reasons for disclosure and non-disclosure, the perceived closeness of the adolescent daughters to their transnational mothers before and after separation, and the communication process undergone by the transnational families. Twenty (20) female college students with ages ranging from 16 to 21 years old were recruited in a face-to-face interview. Using frequency distribution tables and percentage values, the data gathered from the transcribed interviews were analyzed and categorized into themes. Results showed that adolescent daughters perceive a positive relationship with their transnational mothers, as manifested by the increase in closeness and satisfaction level before and after separation. The transnational families also use multiple mediums of communication with the adolescent daughters preferring cross-platform messaging, as it is free of charge and more convenient to use. Furthermore, the adolescent daughters generally reported an increase in their disclosure in their academic and personal lives after their separation from their transnational mothers, while romantic and peer relationships remained to be less disclosed. Family relationships, on the other hand, were seen to be reported by other relatives rather than that of the adolescent herself. Various reasons for disclosure and non-disclosure as well as findings on the delay of disclosure, mother-initiated disclosure, and presence of a proximal relative were also included in the study.
